Division Profile
The Western Division was created in January 1999 with Vulcan’s acquisition of the CalMat Co. This represents our largest acquisition to date, and it has evolved into Vulcan’s largest operating division. The Western Division operates aggregates, asphalt mix, asphalt coating, and ready-mixed concrete production facilities in Arizona, California, and New Mexico. In addition, we accept inert fill materials at six locations in the same three states. To locate or learn more about a facility near you, use our Facility Finder.

We strive to provide the highest level of quality and service in the markets we supply. Many of the Western Division operations have long histories stretching back to early 20th century predecessor companies including Consolidated Rock Products, Industrial Asphalt and California Portland Cement. Today, our Western Division maintains over one billion tons of aggregates reserves in several of the highest growth markets in the nation. With these reserves, we are committed to remaining the supplier of choice in the markets we operate.

In addition, the employees of our Western Division are firmly committed to managing our property in an environmentally responsible manner for the benefit of the communities neighboring our facilities. We are proud to participate in the reclamation of post-mined land with such programs as native habitat restoration, water conservation and agricultural, commercial, residential and industrial development.

We operate our facilities in a socially responsible manner. Visit our Social Responsibility page to learn more about our commitment to the environment, our employees, and the communities we serve. Additionally, Vulcan Materials Company Foundation supports many public and charitable projects such as working with schools, supporting environmental stewardship and encouraging employee involvement in the communities where we have operations.
